Functional Areas

A functional area is how the model represents a specific type of capacity. It brings together everything needed to model it: what kind of capacity it is, how activity is defined, how workload is calculated, how that workload gets converted into capacity needs, and any assumptions built in.

Examples of functional areas include: A&E bays, critical care beds, maternity rooms, same-day emergency care (SDEC) spaces.
