Overview

In the capstone project, you’ll bring together everything you’ve learned and apply it to a real analytical project. You can use your own project or an example we provide.

By the end of this session, you should be able to:

Apply RAP principles to an existing or new project
Conduct and receive peer feedback on your code
Plan and prioritise improvements to your analytical pipeline
Discuss trade-offs and make decisions about what to refactor and when

💼 Your project

Bring your own

You’re welcome to bring an existing analytical project — anything from a one-off analysis to an ongoing pipeline. We’ll help you apply RAP principles incrementally.

What makes a good capstone project:

You care about it (it’s real work, or similar to real work you do)
It’s something you’ll actually use and maintain after the course
It’s complex enough to benefit from RAP (not a one-liner, but doesn’t need to be huge)

Use our example

If you don’t have a suitable project, we’ll provide an example analytical project that you can work through. You’ll learn the same principles but on our project instead of yours.

📖 Before the session

For the capstone, there are no formal pre-learning materials. We’ll ask you to complete a short form, reflecting on your capstone project. We’ll ask you about:

What was the problem?
What RAP techniques did you apply?
How has that impacted your work?
What are you going to do next?

You can also use time before the session to work on your project. Remember you can always ask for help in the channel.

🖥️ During the session

We’ll reflect on and share your projects, give feedback, and discuss next steps. This is as much about learning your own development process as it is about the code itself.
