Prerequisites & expectations

βœ… What you need to know

You should be comfortable with the basics of R or Python:

  • Writing simple functions
  • Working with variables
  • Using packages/libraries (installing and importing)

πŸ’¬ During the sessions

As the RAP Accelerator is run in a flipped classroom style, the sessions are highly engaging β€” don’t expect to just sit back and watch! To get the most out of the programme, here’s what we ask of you:

  • Complete the pre-work: 60–90 minutes before each session. Essential, not optional.
  • Camera on: we’ll work in small groups, and we learn best when we can see each other.
  • Engage actively: ask questions, work through examples, share what you’re learning.
  • Bring a real project: the capstone project applies what you’ve learnt to something that matters to you.

πŸ§‘β€πŸ« Need a quick refresher?

If you want to take part in the RAP accelerator but don’t yet meet the prerequisites, there is a chance for you to upskill before October.

The NHS Open Analytics community is running an Introduction to R and RStudio course in September. Attending this will ensure you meet the prerequisites. You can sign up online. On the sign-up form, please write that you heard about the workshop through SCIC.
